1) About the man behind LYRITA AUDIO

I have an engineering background, that has served me well, both in my work for others, and now, for myself.
The engineering education started at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and continued at
the University of Missouri-Rolla, Rolla, USA. The interest in music, and audio, has been there from my youth.

The tremendous exposure to live music happened in Chicago, USA, and that sparked the interest in audio reproduction
in the home. After using commercial products for quite a while, the next step was to see if I could do better for myself
and the DIY cycle commenced.

In case you are wondering, I am an old timer, and am at the ripe age of 60 years.

2) ABOUT LYRITA
Lyrita Audio was formed in the year of 1994. We, as a family, had just moved back to New Delhi, India. What better time,
when everything was churning around, to switch professions, and work for myself. Lyrita Audio was born as a high end audio
company, with designs developed by me. No bones about it, Lyrita is basically a one person company, which is the way almost
all high end companies start out.

There was a dirth of good audio equipment in India at that time, and Lyrita Audio hoped to partly fill that gap. The high end
market in India was nascent, and had to be developed. I knew it was going to be a slow and long haul. The products were
developed for Indians, at prices they could afford.

3) VISION BEHIND THE PRODUCTS
- What special attention do you give as a brand owner for that special experience that they get.
- Your vendors & Your Quality standards. What Segment of gear that you produce.

Lyrita’s products are developed for the primary purpose of enjoying music at home. The technology that
brings this aspect closest to the listener is still the age old technology of tubes. So, Lyrita has a range
of tube amplifiers using single-ended designs. To complement them, are a couple of high sensitivity speaker designs.

It is important to look at systems when auditioning audio gear, since all components act together. So, any of
Lyrita’s amps will work well with either of Lyrita’s speakers. In this oft cold commercial world, personal relationships
still bring amends. It took a long time, but those relationships have worked with a select few vendors, where commitment
to quality still holds. And, where traditional artisans still bring wonders to their craft.

The 2A3 SET

4) MARKET & AUDIENCE-How do you see the market was & is right now.
-From Solidstate to Tube gear and from mp3 back to turntables, do you see the market getting evolved?
-Have your patrons asked you for of technologies than the ones LYRITA offers?

I have no doubts that the high end audio market is small, and that’s the way I have remained. A lot of work
still needs to be done educating listeners to good reproduced sound. It’s not the listeners – it’s the industry
that has let them down.

When you listen to music, everyone can recognize if the music sounds good or not. Why abandon a technology
which already does a good job, especially when the newer one is worse. Some people are recognizing that, and
that’s why analogue reproduction is back. Both will coexist together.

In a small business, where products are made to order, you tend to listen to your customers closely.
So, yes, products have come about because of specific requests. That will continue.

The 845 SET

5) SOME STRAIGHT QUESTIONS
- What brand has been your inspiration & Which of the other brands you tend to appreciate.
As shared earlier – the QUAD II was a revelation. Then, I have been more impressed by the work of DIY individuals,
some of whom sell products under their own names. Sad to say, very few commercial brands inspire at all.

Vintage gear continues to impress me more and more. Those old codgers had got things right! So, the Linn has yielded
to the Garrard, the Asak to the Supex, the EL34 to the 2A3, and I’m veering to the old Altec sound. It’s a very individualistic
brand. And individuals who cotton on to the sound seek me out.

6) Technology
Technology should be subservient to the purpose, that of good reproduced sound. I use technology that does that best.

The turning point for me, to get into tube design, was acquiring a pair of QUAD II valve monoblocks. The QUADs had
such a beguiling sound to them, that got me wondering what the heck I was doing with solid-state designs.
So, on went a quest to design tube amps, that at least got me to where the QUADs were, or bettered them.

I’m glad to say that I have.

7) Aesthetics Vs Quality
Any product has to serve both ends - they must sound good & look good.
Otherwise, why would people buy them. However, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and there are no universal truths.
At Lyrita we offer the best possible aesthetics closely considering the cost factor and feedback till now has been relatively
encouraging both nationally & internationally.

HARMONY TWO
SINGLE 4" DRIVER, FULL RANGE SPEAKER

8) Any forthcoming projects/products to look out for?
Horn loaded speakers !!

9) MUSIC, ART & RELIGION
- Music & its essence in reality than just measuring waves in Hertz.

If a designer has no sense for music, how can he design good audio products? You have to understand the nuances of live music,
in order to help reproduce them. That cultivation, and appreciation of music, takes conscious effort, and comes over time.

I have heard a lifetime of music live – in baithaks, in dingy nightclubs, in magnificent concert halls. I have professionally
recorded live performances – all to analogue tape, mind. Cultural aesthetics and sensibilities are important in growing up
as a mature person – all of us do, in our own ways.

10) WHY DON’T WE SEE LYRITA MARKET ITS PRODUCTS MUCH LIKE OTHERS?
- Music lovers seek me out – I meet them part way in making audio products for them. I try and show listeners what good
reproduced sound should be – then, it’s for them to recognize what they want.

11) YOUR MUSIC
-What kind of music you prefer to listen
All kinds – though I’m partial to jazz, and classical music. Listening is very mood dependent.
Fortunately, I have a good collection of music to select from.

12) WORDS OF ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS IN HIFI
Listen to lots of live music. It’s a copout saying it’s not available in your city. Just take a look at a listing of cultural events
and you’ll find plenty. Live music will hone your ears, and make you appreciate the emotions that music can arouse.

Indeed, it is easy to make a big sound from big speakers. But it is an art to make a big sound from a small speaker. Like JB3.

It entered my living room and will not go out - being a crucial part of my main listening system. Amazing! And it is even not connected 100% - the Cardas spades are too small to be connected both on amp and on speaker ends so it is still loosely-coupled.

Costing only 350€ this little gems are a steal - i threw out speakers costing 5k€ and am now much happier man. More money in my pocket and big natural sound in my room.

Make more out of less!

Hi Guys
I have a Steve Nugent Off-Ramp USB converter and am pretty impressed with the device.
But Steve has now released a rather interesting little cousin that my mate John Darko here in Australia has reviewed - Check it out:

An appeal to the videophiles here to guide me in buying a 3D blu ray player....
Need a 3D BD player for my newly aquired 3D LED TV......
My small research in this field has led me into shortlisting the Oppo 93, 95.....
I inquired about the prices for the Oppo and was informed that they are really pricey... 93 - Rs 60k and 95 - Rs 110k.... On further info gathering i found out that the AUDIO DAC in the OPPO is what makes it expensive, and the video quality that u get is quite comparable to a standard BD player..... Can anyone confirm this ????
So what BD player do i get if i want a great quality 3D video quality, and which will play ALL my BDs and DVDs ??? ((( am planning on buying a seperate CD and SACD player for my audio needs..))).

Hi Guys

Well its arrived. A few hiccups whose resolution is of interest to guys here in Aus but of no value to you guys so I will not mention it here.

Ok - how does it sound. Neutral, neutral, and even more neutral. This is the most neutral DAC and amp combination I have heard - period - no SS steeliness, no valve warmth - all these adjectives simply do not apply. Its not as a fast as my Patek but still pretty darn fast - but it does does not have that amps thinness and slight dryness either. How would I describe it - like a power version of the Metrum is my best guess at this stage. Very resolving with great slam - not as resolving as my Patek and PDX which is the most resolving thing I have heard to date in my system - but still really resovling. I think my Patek and Playback Designs could be faster again but I didn't try that DAC on my Patek - I used my Trafomatic SET when I heard that. My Naquadria it likely even faster again but it is being modded right now to accept standard cable terminations so can't check it out - that will need to wait until I get back to Brisbane.

Another interesting feature that the specs do not make clear is it in fact has pre-outs so you can use it as a DAC and have an upgrade path. I will check it out that way a bit later.

I am using its USB input right now but would really love to see what my Off-Ramp does - however its SPDIF is on the blink - possibly something broke due to twisting the cable on and off - it happened once before but don't really know until I can get a tech to look at it which needs to wait until I return to Brisbane where I have a tech I trust. I may be able to get it working with AES/EBU but need to get a cable.

I have not heard a DAC amp combination at this price point that I would rate better - it could perhaps be the leader at this price point. The Metrum with an Audiophellio and Patek costs about that but I think this may have the edge. A must audition against any DAC amp combination you were thinking of getting at about the $3k price point.

More to follow as listening continues.

Thanks
Bill

Hi all,
I have been reading a lot about computer based music played via USB 2.0 or firewire based cables.Normal Transport/DAC combo's has been there for very long time but the popularity and success of computer stored music is increasing by the day.
I have been thinking for long time to take a plunge but due to lack of knowledge of computer based applications at my age I was a bit reluctant. Also I was waiting for this technology to mature enough so that my equipment did not become obsolete within a few months of buying.

This time when I was in Delhi I bought a Mac book pro and started ripping my CD's in itune music library. I did not have a USB DAC to play this library in Delhi. In Bagkok I have an Audiolab 8200CDQ which has a very a very good DAC with USB input. So immediately when I reached Bangkok on 26th April I was eager to try it.. Also in India i had read about certain softwares like Pure Music, Amarra, Decible etc. having great impact on sound quality.
I purchased PURE MUSIC (On line)which is reasonably priced but claimed to have very good sound very close to Amarra which is very expensive around US$ 600- Appx. I connected Mac Book Pro to Audiolab 8200CDQ using Furutech Formula 2 USB-B cable (A-B type) which is OFC conductors with silver plating and gold plated jacks. Audiolab CDQ was then connected to Mcintosh MC 2300 tube pre-amplifier using Oyaide pure silver solid core XLR cables. Mcintosh 2300 pre was connected to Mcintosh 601 monoblocks using cardas Clear XLR cables. Monoblocks were then driving Quads 2805 electrostats using Cardas Golden reference speaker cables.
One more thing I added in this chain which made a great impact on the sound was USB 2.0 Galvanic Isolator Adaptor. Check the link below for this small piece of Isolator from Denmark.

http://electronics-shop.dk/galvanically-usb_isolation

http://electronics-shop.dk/prod/usb2iso-2.jpg

Channel D Pure Music : http://www.channld.com/puremusic/

When I started listening to this new type of music chain I was not immediately impressed. It took some time for new Isolator ,USB cable and the USB Async DAC to stabilise.by 3rd day after about15 hours I was really surprised by the improvements. The sound was superb. It was better than any digital sound I heard before in my life time. Even listening to old indian music of say 30 or 40 years old was fantastic..
While listening to Talat Mahmood I could feel hair raising on my arms and tears in my eyes. Every kind of music new or very very old recordings were sounding great. Music was just flowing out effortlessly and Quads disappearing from the scene.
I will recommend every one to try it out. There is a great DAC from Cambridge Audio around Rs.33,000 in Chitranjan Park dealers shop.
Also there is great impact of PURE MUSIC software and USB ISOLATOR in this chain. Anyone trying computer based music must try these 2 items and see the results for themselves.
M2Tech USB converter is also good ( Like USB Isolator) as i have read on this and other forums. But I have not yet tried .Can anyone using M2tech let me know his impressions and price if possible.

Will be happy to have views of other members onthis subject and their experiences and recommendations as I am still very new enterant in this field.

Thanks
